So where the begin i honestly don’t know? What is this tale you ask most would say 'science fiction' yes, maybe? there was a time when i thought so too, a time when the farfetched was exactly that! I’m just an ordinary girl living my life like the rest, day in day out riding my scooter to work at a little coffee house down by the water. so i guess to begin there would be right course, to introduce you to my character and so on, but no. For i am just the narrator, a character in a story that through my perspective you will learn the truth, you will learn everything as we go.
Which leaves us to the beginning and began it did. One evening after close up at the coffee house, while standing alone the looking out at the water near the Marina just gazing, contemplating the world, i see the usual passerby walking along the footpath along the river’s edge. he said good evening, i say good evening and they continued on their way, a minute passed possibly two, i turn to leave, my eyes seeking my scooter....What the? A strange amber light was starting grow in between the brick buildings across the street. It started to grow in illumination. Curious to see who was using a spotlight in the small walk space between the dark buildings, my feet guide me closer. Impossible! the man id only spoken to before seemed to be unzipping the very fabric of our reality! two meters high the slit was made and emanating from it was a golden light like the sunlight filtering through a gap in the curtain, he stepped through and disappeared the gap started to close....by breath coming in gasps curiosity winning out over fear, i venture over.
There was nothing there now. The line was closed, did i really see that? crossed my mind, the air was strangely hot, i stood there like a dazed idiot, certanty overcomes disbelief i begin to look around checking the walls, nothing untoward, i crouch down to examine the ground apart from being filthy with the addition of garbage and leaves seemed normal, a small hole in the concrete, does look a little odd.. "Did you forget your Key" a female voice asks behind me. Startled i look to the speaker "Sure" i said smiling thinking she was making a joke for i must have looked peculiar "No time we will use mine, we have to make curfew otherwise we will be trapped here." "But" i started to protest as she placed a long crystal into the small hole in the ground in one deft motion make a upward gesture in the air, the curtain opened and she grabbed my wrist and pulled me through.
Bright light assaulted my eyes, then Daylight? i took in my surroundings, startled to see i was where i was before but it was day feeling confused i automatically check. "We must Hurry" my companion said. "i must go back, i don’t....", "don’t be ridiculous you know the doors are only one way, now Hurry!" choosing to stay quiet until i figured out how to get out of this mess my curiosity had gotten me in, we ran towards the marina, until a saw, 'oh my lord!'.
"she’s beautiful isn't she? I’m in awe every time i see her in dock, it's what made me wish to join" "Join?" i asked "you are a funny one" she said " The Un'Kwon of course 'terra incognita' she giggles" "of course" i agreed, locking that information away. We seemed not to be the only late comers, others we’re filing into what is normally the ferry boarding gates except with an additional large what could be called a metal platform protruding like a gangplank from the side of, what we would for the moment, call a ship.
'What am i doing?' i think to myself, this is crazy, but my feet continue to lead me to the Un'Kwon?, did she mean the ship or the people? I’m sure I’ll soon find out. We reach the entrance, Surprised, it looks like your typical hotel foyer two reception desks sat on either side of the room labeled 'check in' and 'new arrivals'. "Which way are you going, I’m sorry what is your name?" i asked my companion. "Luna", (couldn't help smiling at that). "How about you." "My names Zoe, pleased to meet you, i guess I’m new too" "OK lets check in then" my new friend probably from another dimension replied.
What am i doing? i again asked myself am i about to sign up for some cross dimensional army or something, I’ve got to find a way outer here. As if on cue "We've got thirty minutes until we refaze and cloak" piped up Luna. Now what did that mean?
Luna reached the reception desk "Have we already received your paperwork or do you need to complete it onboard?" asked the receptionist a man around his late thirties, "Have already received it" replied Luna " i am ready for my crew quarters assignation" "Very good what is your name..." i watched as Luna got her information package, could it be that easy? can i do this? i wonder what the paperwork involves, i can’t believe I’m even contemplating this but what choice do i have i don’t know where i am, Nobody will miss me at home, except maybe my boss when i don’t show up for work tomorrow, but in the end i will be just another lost blib in the fabric of society.
"Excuse me Miss" "Sorry" i said to the receptionist, realizing i was next, my heart pounding in my chest my mouth gone dry, what are you doing Zoe? "Sorry Sir what did you say" the receptionist smiled "Have we received your paperwork or to you need to complete it onboard" "Complete it on board" i said stunned at myself "very well, my assistant will direct you to the waiting room where you can fill out the necessary documentation. 'ok' "i will see you later on i guess" Luna replied next to me, i looked at her "Sure, i certainly hope so' thinking you have no idea and i followed the assistant to the waiting room thinking to myself this is insane.
